Last September while lying in bed as I was pondering the scary thought of no longer having a 3 in front of my age. I decided I needed to start embracing the fact that I would be turning 40 years old. I remember when I hit the big 3, OH  and I was terrified, but this was BIG! This came with a whole new set of fear and anxiety that I wasn’t prepared for. I actually started mentally beating myself up for aging! YES, you heard that right I was in my own head telling myself all the things I wasn’t anymore instead of all the things I have BECOME. Looking back now on these thoughts I was scared out of my mind and not being true to who I was was actually hurting me and making me a less confident woman. I have always felt strong and empowered but this was a hard lesson that I needed to fully embrace. I had many conversations with a fellow friend who seemed just fine with a 4 in front of her age and as a matter of fact, they were game-changers within the entrepreneurial community. So I decided to put those big girl panties on, Rose’ glass in hand and do something for my soul to help welcome me into this new decade.

I have been a big lover of Rose’ ever since a friend introduced me on a hot summer day a few years back. It was NOTHING like the Rose’ I had had in the past. There was a sort of sophistication to this new generation of wine. Not at all sweet, complex, and just the right balance of acidity on my palate. I WAS HOOKED. I started trying so many different kinds and really understanding the starting notes of each one along with the colors ranging from light to deep pink.  I ran across a wonderful book, Rose All Day, and completely inspired me for my party and this shoot. Oh, and YES, I worked on my birthday but this wasn’t work, this was my passion so in that sense I really didn’t work at all! My Incredibly talented Bestie and Floral designer extraordinaire Dawn from Tularosa Flowers made my vision come to life. Her ability to get right inside your mind and pull out the pieces your envisioning with a stroke of her magic wand putting it all together so effortlessly is a true talent I’m here to tell you! It is like this with every wedding or editorial we have ever done together and I knew she would work her magic with this one!

We originally planned to host it at the beautiful La Valencia Hotel in San Diego because of it’s beautiful soft pink hues but COVID hit and yea well that just messed up everything in its path. After searching for Airbnb’s for weeks we stumbled upon the most perfect location Called Space 110.  It was a brand new modern party and event location that had the perfect palate for us to create. With pink carnations floating from the romantic bamboo light fixtures and soft pink velvet chairs, we were able to create the birthday of my dreams. We had a beautiful farm to table catered lunch and sipped Frexient Rose’ on tap from the lovely Bubbles and Brew Prosesso truck.
