Tyler and I are both musicians, and we met while doing graduate degrees at Florida State University. We had been in classes together for quite a while but didn’t become friends until right before graduating with our master’s degrees. We were both playing the same gig (I was playing piccolo and he was playing timpani), and the stars seemed to align to allow us to really talk for the first time. He complimented me on my playing, and then we spent the next few days talking nonstop every chance we could get. Things kind of came together at a friend’s graduation party- he was there, and I was also there (with both of my older sisters no less, since my family was in town for graduation). He wasn’t deterred by that at all and came up to talk to the three of us, which was a bold move and super impressive to me. My sisters liked him right away, and they’re quite picky, so that was a huge deal! We spent the whole night talking, only for me to find out later that night that he had been very casually dating the girl who was throwing the party (they had gone on two or three dates, and she liked him quite a bit). Yikes. I was really disappointed and confused, so I reached out to him after the party was over and asked about the situation. He confirmed that it was true, but told me that he felt such a strong pull towards me that he had to see where this situation would go- so he broke it off with her the very next day. Two weeks later, I wrote a letter to him/to myself predicting that we would get married, and here we are!
He took me to Savannah, GA, which is one of our favorite places, and proposed to me on my birthday (June 20th) in one of the city’s historic squares. There was a photographer there who secretly took pictures, and afterward, we walked around and took a few more before going to dinner at the famous Olde Pink House restaurant downtown. I was completely shocked because for weeks leading up to it, he had been throwing out all of these hints that he wasn’t going to be able to propose for at least another six months, and trying to throw me off of the trail!

Elyse also has another talented and creative side to her! She owns a successful store on Etsy Called Tidy Clutterings. She made makes beautiful ring dishes and earings. When we first chatted on the phone I had to check them out for myself. They were ADORABLE. I had bought a few and customized them and sent them to a couple of my brides that recently booked their weddings. They had their initials and their wedding date! I love supporting small businesses and fellow girl bosses!
We are so excited to see you in June for your wedding! You are such an adorable couple!
