Who have you noticed being the most emotional at weddings? Many times, I’ve found it’s the father of the bride who is the most emotional. While bride and groom “first look” sessions have been becoming more and more popular, a southern tradition that is making a comeback during weddings are father-daughter “first look” sessions. First looks are not just for you and your future hubby; here are 5 reasons why you should consider doing a daddy-daughter first look:

1. Quality Time Before Wedding Time

On the special day, mothers and daughters get to spend time together before the wedding getting dressed, getting their hair and makeup done, setting up, etc. A father-daughter first look is a great opportunity for brides to share some quality time and special moments with their father before the wedding as well.

2. Wedding Traditions

Many brides do not want to break the tradition of allowing the groom to see her in her wedding dress before she walks down the aisle. However, they would love to have a session that captures the sweet and precious moment of their father seeing them as a bride for the first time.

3. Special Moment and Memory

It can be tough for a father to see her daughter all grown up as a bride for the first time. Seeing her on her wedding day before she walks down the aisle may be the first time it really hits him that she’s truly all grown up. Being able to capture his reaction and emotion at the very moment that he first sees his beautiful baby girl as a bride is so incredibly special and sweet.

4. The First Man She Ever Loved

A father-daughter first look allows the bride to share the first look with the other most important man in her life – the first man she ever loved.

5. Giving Away His Baby Girl

After all, the father is giving away his baby girl. He deserves a first look too and for it to be captured in beautiful photographs for the family to cherish forever. And oh! The emotion you’ll capture. Seeing his baby girl as a bride can bring a whirlwind of emotions to a father. Having a father-daughter first look allows you to capture it all.

I have never heard of this before, but I think it’s very sweet. It’s too late for me, but I think this would be so nice when my girls get married. I”m sure my husband would love this!

  2. Nita says:

I wish I had heard of this before my wedding! I would have loved to captured the memory of me and my dad! Lovely photos.

  3. To be honest, I’m not a fan of the ‘giving away’ concept. For me, it’s too much like the bride is property, but that’s just my personal opinion. However, when two of my friends (both women) got married, it was all the more special when their fathers walked them down the aisle because they had previously been very unsupportive when they first came out. It was absolutely heart melting to see those father and bride moments. And it would be great if this blog recognised gay marriage as well – would love to see it included here.

I remember how lovely my dad was at my wedding. I nearly tripped walking down the aisle due to nerves but he was there to keep me upright. It was such a special day

So sweet. Maybe I would have been a bit more composed during the wedding. My dad’s look when he saw my made my emotions go wild.
