HOW TO MAKE AN ACRYLIC WEDDING STYLING BOARD

wedding flat lay styling boards

Some would say I am slightly obsessed with details! Let’s face it, I live in a house full of boys so I am always dying to shoot all the pretty’s on the wedding day. I spend countless hours looking at details on Pinterest, and then, even more, hours with a few details of my own at home figuring out what I liked and how to shoot it in a way that really showcased all the pretty things brides bring on their wedding day. I do have to say it starts with EDUCATING them well before the wedding. I always emphasize the importance of bringing details and even link them to this post “5 things brides forget on a wedding day”. I can’t tell you how much this has helped!

After being slightly bored with my old standby linen styling board, I decided that I wanted to create something with a bit more texture. I did a little research, asked my artist friend for a few ideas, and here you have it! This is my first one and I have to say I am in LOVE with it! I plan on making a soft pink one when I have some free time. I always welcome comments and questions, so feel free to give your input!

There is no right or wrong way to do this! I even had my 6-year-old help me! The pattern is really up to you!

For this pattern, I used the small tool. It came in a pack of 4 different ones. I liked this one the best

STEP ONE- WHAT TO BUY

Purchase a pack of 3 blank canvases. size 18×24 ( This size is PERFECT)

Pick out your acrylic paints. Any colors will work! Make sure you get white so you can adjust the strength of your main color. The softer tones might require 2 whites.

Get a rubber spreading tool. This will be the way you will want to apply it first in a large amount.

Purchase a pack of Acrylic knives.

STEP 2- HOW TO APPLY

  1. Mix a dime-sized amount of your main color with about 3 Tablespoons of white.
  2. 5-6 Tablespoons of texture.
  3. Mix together in a small bowl.
  4. Apply the mixture in small batches with your spatula. Be sure to work a little quickly as it does start to harden fast.
  5. Use your texture knife to make the pattern you wish.
  6. Let dry for 1-2 hours.

Enjoy your new style board!!
