HOW I WORK ALONGSIDE THE ONE I LOVE…AND MAKE IT WORK!
Have you ever wondered how it works when your business partner is the one you love? Today I’d like to discuss how John and I make it work every day.
What we do every week may look a little different, but every day involves John and I working together side by side. This set up took some work to get right and takes work to stay on the same page. All of this work is worth it though so that I can see the world with my love by my side both doing what we love.

It all starts with dreams. We like to do big dreaming together. In our relationship, I’m the one who is always coming up with huge new ideas to take us to new places, invest our time and energy in new things, and try new experiences. John has the ability to bring my dreams to reality by putting things in perspective and helping us focus on what will be the best for us as a company and as a couple.
We learned early in our business that we had to set boundaries to keep our relationship in a healthy place. Setting working hours specifically help us not get overworked and overwhelmed so we can continue to work together, not against each other. What works for us is setting a 6pm stop time each day so everyone knows what to expect in our household.

Another suggestion I would give to others looking to do something similar is to have conversations about your expectations of yourself and your partner. We take care of this by mapping out our next days each evening. Every evening we discuss as a team what our plans are for the next day. This way we both know our roles when we start each morning, and we are on the same page about what we expect the other to accomplish that day. You wouldn’t think it would be hard to stay in tune with each other when we work at desks that are only 3 feet apart, but this setup really helps us.
Often times conversations about what we need to do next happen over a shared meal and a glass of wine. If you haven’t already found out, we really love a good glass of wine! Fun traditions like this give us things to do together as we work toward our common business goals. We love to play together, and have fun working together. We’re thankful this opportunity presented itself to us and we get to live our dream together every day doing what we love.

That sounds so amazing! I would love to work full-time with my husband by my side. #goals
Great post. I wish that my wife and I could work together. I never get to see her because she works most of the day
That’s awesome. My boyfriend and I are definitely helping each other out in our businesses so I totally understand that keeping that and your life together separate is an important step. Setting up time for business and off time is important. It can definitely work if you set the right boundaries and make sure you communicate properly. Way to go guys!
Seems like a really good perfect couple! Such an inspiration!
